Rugs of Asia and Caucasus
Kid Rugs
In Central Asian rugs great use is made of geometric shapes, octagons, hexagons, diamonds, which make an all-over pattern on the "field" of the rug and are filled with small formal patterns, as are the interstices of the background.
The colour schemes are simple, rich reds and browns in several shades always predominating, with blues and whites as secondary colours and occasionally a little green and yellow.
Caucasian rugs are still more geometrical, not to say angular, and even spiky, and are generally characterised by the introduction of entertaining animals—birds, beasts and humans.
Their flower and leaf forms are invariably completely stylised and can be adapted and used by the amateur rug maker with extraordinarily good effect.
