About carpets
Until lately the oldest pile carpets known were three specimens found in a mosque at Iconium in Asia Minor.
From their design it is conjectured that they were made early in the thirteenth century, which would key up as regards date with the known finishing of the building of the mosque.
The recent discovery and opening of five ancient burial mounds in the Pazyrik Valley, in a lonely part of Mongolia, has now brought to light (literally) what is considered to be the oldest existing pile carpet.
